Style - Its An Inside Job

Style - Its An Inside Job

For years people have asked me about personal style. I have played with the idea of  'blogging" about this for years but I didn't want a another dumb blog about fashion.  Just to be clear I love design and I find it intoxicating. I'm not a big fashion connoisseur, I don't care what "in" or "out".

"Fashion comes and goes, style if forever."  - Ralph Lauren

Style is not fashion and it has power but you cant necessarily buy it, you earn it slowly and over time.  Some people are born with it and some people cultivate. Its a confidence and exposure to the best design, art and architecture repeatedly.

Style is a state of being, a confidence, a way to self express to the world.  We all know that when we look good, we feel better. We carry ourselves with more conviction and this translates.   Style is an attitude, a confidence and a presence.

Style is misunderstood as Fashion or that its vapid yet its not about fashion.  Its about you being your truest self and that being art.

You know it when you see it, when some one enters the room and all you can think is who is that?  That snot fashion.  A prtty wpmena in a pir of skinney jeans and a designer bag isnt style and you might nit even notice her.  That sthe difference.

Many companies try to sell us on their way to accomplish this and yet we buy these things and don't feel better.  Its not always a more is more concept.  As consumers we are changing, we need to learn to buy carefully and buy quality.

Style was something I noticed when I was about 7 years old, I would see someone who had this "style" , it was a presence more than anything and I was like what is that? That thing you cant explain but you know it when you see it.

That old lyric. "It dont mean a thing if it dont got that swing." by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong.

I am staring a blog about thoughts, inspirations and design, follow, comment and please join the conversation.
